Multimedia Production Experience

During my fifteen years of experience in the interactive space, I’ve continually enjoyed the challenge of experimenting with new technologies.  My usual role is that of an information architect, usability expert, project manager and team leader brought in to review an existing web site and make recommendations on where improvements can be made and then planning the development of those improvements.  After five years as both a consultant and employee with the Walt Disney Studios, I spent ten years as a private consultant and was brought in as “the fixer” for many clients including Tickets.com, WITI.com, LegendaryHeroes.com, among others, and would work three to five months analyzing and then launching a new site or ripping apart an existing one.

However, nothing taught me about staying on top of what’s new more than when I was an instructor in UCLA Extension’s New Media department – if you work the web, you can never stop expanding your knowledge of tools and platforms.  Beginning in 1995 when I produced the first shockwave game playable on the web for the ToyStory.com site, I have stayed on the bleeding edge and kept current.  It’s my job to know what the right tools are to fulfill the client’s needs.  I’ve experimented with every online shopping tool that I can get my hands on, whether it is a simple ZenCart installation for a small online shop or a full-service ecommerce solution with a customized Oracle backend that controls everything from the call center to the warehouse.  I started programming at age six, and have hand-coded HTML since 1995, though now I’m having fun experimenting with CSS and XML.  I’ve created 3D worlds in Director, immersive video, visual effects, QTVR creation, Flash games, and so much more.  Beyond the web, I’ve also worked extensively with databases, software development, usability case studies, and have installed and evangelized Project Server to control the flow of projects through the process.

I truly believe that it’s my hands-on experience that makes me a better manager, as I have an understanding of exactly what I’m asking my team to do and I’m right there to assist if an extra hand is needed to finish the job.   In addition, prior to working in new media I worked in traditional television and film production and I believe that this gives me an incredible advantage over those who have only worked online.  The television and your computer are becoming one, and I’m not only ready for it, I’ve been planning for it for years.
